Does TellJack have to run all the time?

TellJack needs to be running to see when new content becomes available so that it can notify you. If you choose to exit TellJack then you will not receive any notifications.

I'd like to switch off the alerts if I'm doing a presentation or something?

You can right-click the TellJack icon in your system tray and choose the "Switch user" option. This will log you out of TellJack and you won't receive any alerts until you log back in again.
